Aspiring Scientists
The World Food Preservation Education Foundation promotes the education (M.S. & Ph.D.) of graduate students from developing countries in postharvest food science at "sister" universities of the World Food Preservation Center® LLC.
Gustav Mahunu with his advisor Professor Hongyin Zhang (pictured above) , is a graduate of Jiangsu University in postharvest biological science from Ghana. He speaks in this video of how time spent studying at Jiangsu University in China—a World Food Preservation Center® LLC "sister" university—has equipped "a young man like me to return to Africa and provide a catalyst for research and educational programs on postharvest preservation of food." He says the World Food Preservation Center model has the potential "to go a long way in reducing postharvest losses and obtaining food security in many developing countries." Professor Mahunu has subsequently graduated with his Ph.D. from Jiangsu University in China and leads a postharvest program at the University for Development Studies in Ghana. He presently is spearheading a proposal to establish "Solar Cold Chain Research Centers and Training Hubs" at 2 "sister" universities of the World Food Preservation Center® LLC in Ghana and 3 in Ethiopia. |
